When you see a naked one, you shall clothe him (Isaiah 58,7)

Clothing

They didn't step out of a children's book, wearing a patched-up suit, nor were they photographed in the 19th century, with their toes showing through the gaping holes in their shoes. But their situation is not so far from that.

They make do with a worn suit, once purchased on sale at a discount store, and even that was at the expense of other needs.

They drag themselves along with uncomfortable, poor-quality shoes, sometimes causing irreversible damage to their feet, only because a quality pair of shoes costs more than NIS70. That is the maximum they could scrape together, with great effort, to spend on previous models at end-of-season sales.

Does it have to be so?

Shoes or electricity bill? A dress or tuition? Must a devoted mother face these quandaries?

Over the years, the Birkat Hashem volunteers have witnessed many such heart-rending dilemmas.

For the most part, the scales tip in favor of food, electricity, water bills, and other basic needs, while the purchase of new clothing is postponed indefinitely... Gmachim and used-clothing stores help temporarily fill the void, until the acquisition cannot be put off any longer. The Birkat Hashem staff decided that this situation cannot continue!

Every child, teenager and parent deserves to wear matching, respectable, up-to-date clothing, during every season and at all times of the year.

The problem was that any financial assistance provided by Birkat Hashem was immediately allocated by the families to other needs, or alternately, swallowed in the big black hole of the overdraft. That is why the Birkat Hashem staff decided to organize actual clothing distributions several times a year, both before Jewish holidays and at changes of seasons.
